| Sumario: | [eng] The Font des Verger is located at an altitude of 570 m in the Biniaraix ravine (Sóller municipality). It corresponds to an important spring located at the contact between the limestones and dolomites appertaining to the Lias (lower Jurassic) and the marls and dolostones Rhaetian in age (upper Triassic). It constitutes a drainage gallery formed by a unique conduit that has an approximate direction NEE (070º), of 423 m of projected route and 510 m of real development. The first 158 m are air-filled, with two short sumps (sump 1 and sump 2), followed by a third sump 300 m long (225 m in projection) that has a continuation through an aerial room approaching 40 m in length. Francesc Ripoll and Adolfo Gregorio, members of the Ahlbaida group and the Speleo Club Mallorca, conducted the first explorations between 1971-76. The Cwmbran Caving Club explored, between 1994-97, the entire sump 3 finally reaching an air chamber. In 2009, a Mallorcan expedition was organized between several speleological clubs (Agrupació Esportiva Voltors-OJE, Grup Nord de Mallorca and Grup Espeleològic de Llubí) and the sump 3 was surveyed. |
