| Resumo: | [eng] Census of wintering birds in the Balearics, January 2023. The January census covered the four largest islands (Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera). Also included, a roosting site census of Red Kite Milvus milvus, with the result reported separately. In total, excluding the Red Kite, 23,913 birds of 72 species were counted; 78.79 % of the birds were counted in Mallorca, 10.76 % in Menorca, 7.46 % in Ibiza and 2.76 % in Formentera. The most abundant species were waterfowl with 8,896 birds, 3,530 ardeids, predominantly Cattle Egret Bubulcus ibis, 2,993 rails (rallidae) of which 1,506 where Eurasian Coots Fulicula atra, 5,173 waders, predominantly Golden Plover Pluvialis apricaria, Kentish Plover Charadrius alexandrinus and Northern Lapwing Vanellus vanellus. |
