description [EN] This conversation with Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra actually started back in 1986, as a result of the monographic exhibition curated in his honour by Seville s Colegio de Arquitectos (Institute of Architects) an experience that inspired admiration among us, even as students, toward such a rigorous oeuvre that spoke to our intellectual curiosity at the Seville School. It was there, at the recently inaugurated collegiate headquarters rationalist but realised in brick, which exuded both tradition and modernity in the heart of the historic city that the work of Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra captivated us with an extraordinary artistic refinement, conceived and built using familiar conceptual resources and unremarkable materials.Numerous national and international publications followed the work of Vázquez Consuegra, who, even when he was still lecturing in Architectural Projects at the School, was leading the way in the social urban engagement of architecture in Seville to imbue everyday life with an atmosphere at once optimistic and open. In those journals that we all so avidly consumed, those sketches and construction details (impeccably drawn and perfectly specified) were a touchstone for an entire generation of young architects in training. Later, as practicing professionals, of course, we simply had to visit his works in situ rigorous, attentive to place, disciplined in every detail, and always contemporary.Although Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra looks and designs through the lens of drawings, be it in his travel journals or in those initial outlines and sketches that capture his ideas, this lengthy and unhurried conversation in 2024 conveys his quiet capacity for communication also in the spoken word, to look back over the thinking that has shaped a vibrant half-century of lucid professional practice.
