Sumario:The article analyzes the celebration of the Jocs Florals, a literary contest in the Catalan language, which took place in San José, capital of Costa Rica, in 1955. In Spain, the Franco dictatorship had prohibited demonstrations in Catalan. In this way, cultural and literary initiatives such as the traditional Jocs Florals were relegated to exile. The case of the Jocs Florals of Costa Rica is unique due to the presence of the President of the Republic, José Figueres, in the celebration of the proclamation of the winners and the speeches he gave as a member of the contest's honor committee
