Dairy farming has an important role in terms of land use, rural employment and the economic, environmental and social development of many European agricultural regions. However, after the end of the milk quota system in Spain the sector is immersed in a crisis that is testing the livestock farms. There are already many that have closed when they become unsustainable and this has only just begun. And despite the CAP support, it is more difficult to those who were installed in rural, mountainous or difficult access areas, where logistics complicate its growth and expansion compared to others that will become increasingly competitive. It is therefore a priority to avoid situations of weakness in the sector that harm the weakest link in the chain, producers, and that jeopardize the continuity of their activity in large areas of our territory. To do this, we see that it is necessary to strengthen its market power through cooperative integration and interbranch organizations as other Member States have already done.
