| Resumo: | The present article guides the reader through an historical-theoretical frame - work of the French adjective. The study perspective focuses on the evolution of the French adjective from different linguistic points of view, namely, syntactic and semantic. We begin our journey from the Greco-Roman Antiquity to the so-called traditional grammars, going through the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the seventeenth century, the Age of Enlight - enment and the nineteenth century. This fi rst article would have no reason to be without continuity in a second article with which we will culminate this retrospective of the French adjective through a timeline and certain contemporary studies of grammatical section. |
