Descripción
Sumario:The paper presents the findings of the doctoral research Conceptions on art and interpretation in the educational discourses and practices at Tate Britain in London. The research analyzed the educational discourses and practices of Tate Britain gallery focusing on the art and interpretation ideas they present. One of the interests was to examine how interpretation practices change depending on the different types of works, especially with the works of different historical periods. The analysis of educational texts, interviews with professionals of the Department of Learning and practices of educators has shown that often a distinction is made between the way of working with traditional and contemporary works of art, claiming that the latter have their own characteristics when it comes to interpretation. This paper gives explains when these distinctions were made and the reasons why they were made. Moreover it examines the involvement that this differentiation can have on educational practices in museums, especially when working with contemporary art.
