We propose mechanisms to explain these processes.En condiciones aeróbicas o anaeróbicas, la tirosinasa experimenta un proceso de inactivación irreversible inducido por su sustrato fisiológico L-dopa. Bajo condiciones aeróbicas, esta inactivación ocurre a través de un proceso de inactivación suicida que implica la forma oxy-tirosinasa. Bajo condiciones anaeróbicas, tanto las formas met- como deoxytirosinasa experimentan una inactivación irreversible. La inactivación suicida en condiciones aeróbicas es más lenta que la inactivación irreversible bajo condiciones anaeróbicas. La enzima tiene menos afinidad por el isómero D-dopa que por L-dopa, pero la velocidad de inactivación es la misma.
