| Sumario: | The ecclesial synodality is based on the involvement of pastors and laymen in the Church-communion. The exercise of synodality, instead of being restricted to forms regulated in a juridical way, constitutes a permanent form of cooperation of all in mission. Laymen cooperate with their pastors by «engaging in temporal affairs and by ordering them according to the plan of God» (LG 31). This form of participation is neither a facultative possibility for laymen nor something optional for the Church. Furthermore, the laity render their service to the community in different ways, one of which being the consultative function. |
