Descripción
Sumario:The COVID-19 crisis exposed historic inequalities of the education system, especially for the rural and indigenous sectors in Ecuador. This study analyses the impact of the strategies designed to mitigate COVID-19’s effects in Achuar education. The study used an autobiographic-narrative method incorporating participant observation and non-structured interviews. It was conducted from March to June 2020 in the Achuar Community Saapap, located in Morona Santiago Province. The schools in the area adopted distance education to replace online education from urban areas. This modality reinforces historic disadvantages for indigenous children as it requires independent learning without appropriate resources and in foreign languages escalating coloniality of knowing and being.
