By analyzing these painting, as well as a pamphlet written by Archbishop Manuel María Pólit with observations on the work, a dialogue is established between the new artistic conception of the saint from Quito and the Church’s construction of its narrative about her. It also examines how Mideros broke away from colonial representations of Mariana de Jesús in the context of a renewed “millenialism” which exerted an impact on painting in the early twentieth century.A partir de las pinturas de Mariana de Jesús, beata del siglo XVII, elaboradas por el artista Víctor Mideros durante las primeras décadas del siglo XX, el artículo indaga la representación de los ideales religiosos en una sociedad moderna. Mediante el análisis de las obras y de un folleto escrito por el arzobispo Manuel María Pólit, con observaciones de la obra, se pone en diálogo la reconceptualización artística de la santa quiteña y la construcción discursiva de la Iglesia sobre ella.
