The results obtained showed that some factors of motivation to personal achievement would be the first element of dropout, followed by the academic, and finally the institutional factors. It is concluded that an intervention aimed at increasing the student's competencies and self-esteem should be carried out, as well as strategies (implementation of laboratories, leveling courses, support for students at academic risk) of university support, to decrease the dropout rate and strengthen the stay of the students.El presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo identificar los factores de ámbito personal que motivan el abandono de los estudios de un alumno universitario. La metodología se basa en un diseño no experimental de tipo descriptivo con un enfoque mixto, aplicando encuesta y entrevista a través de un cuestionario estructurado por 24 preguntas abiertas y cerradas. Los resultados obtenidos pusieron en manifiesto que algunos factores de motivación al logro personal, sería el primer elemento de abandono de los estudios, seguido del académico, y por último el institucional.
