Sumario:Reading comprehension and reading competence are terms that are used in the educational fi eld in diff erent circumstances and sometimes they are considered synonymously. Th e truth is that these two terms, even though are complementary, they are also essentially diff erent. Reading competence includes the knowledge, skills and strategies that human beings develop throughout our lives and the ability to apply these in the diff erent contexts in which everyday life occurs. Th erefore, competition is of a social nature. While reading comprehension is the ability of individuals to apply cognitive and metacognitive thinking strategies when faced with a written text to understand it. Th at is, it is individual. Th ese two factors are key to the integral construction of a contemporary reader because they represent not only the understanding of the text but how the human being can apply these reading elements for the benefi t of society. Th e school must strengthen reading comprehension and competence, develop them in Aulik Processes, so that students are aware of the importance of reading both in their training and in their life outside of schooling.
