Description
Summary:This short novel by Salazar Arboleda fits right in between the transition from Realism toward Naturalism; but at the same time it ties in with the 18th century British Gothic novel, as well as the French and German fantastic tales prevalent during the first half of the 19th century. The exchange of narrative type within the narrated story: historical novel - psychological novel - fantastic novel - ethic novel shows the ways in which European literatures were assimilated, adapted and innovated during the 19th century in Ecuadorian narrative, and also the way inwhich the novel was a means to propagate ideology.
