Desde su dimensión teórica, se identifican y estudian las principales manifestaciones artísticas que han abordado el tema, asimismo se pone de manifiesto y se proponen hipótesis que expliquen la paradoja de la escasez de estudios y/o sistematizaciones del problema, ello considerando que nuestro país se ubica en el llamado Cinturón de fuego del Pacífico; una de las regiones más sísmicas del planeta. Desde su dimensión práctica, se produjo un cuerpo de obras orientadas a problematizar la representación del fenómeno del terremoto en Chile. De este modo, esta investigación aporta al estudio de la representación visual del fenómeno del terremoto en Chile desde la práctica artística. It’s contained in a historical frame from 1960 to 2010; that is, taking the two largest earthquakes in recent history as chronological references: the earthquake in Valdivia on the 22nd of May of 1960 (magnitude of 9.5 Mw) and the one in Maule on the 27th of February of 2010 (magnitude of 8.8 Mw). In its theoretical portion, the main artistic manifestations that have touched upon this subject are identified and studied. At the same time, hypotheses are manifested and proposed with the goal to explain the paradoxical lack of studies and/or systematizations of the problem, all of this considering our country is located in the well-known Ring of Fire; one of the most active seismic areas in the world. In its practical portion, a series of pieces were produced to problematize the representation of said earthquake phenomenon in Chile. This way, the investigation provides artistic practice to the study’s visual representation of the earthquake phenomenon.
