La aproximación metodológica fue cuantitativa de dos fases: una para explorar y adaptar los instrumentos, y otra para contrastar las hipótesis de investigación. La batería de instrumentos estuvo conformada por tres pruebas de ejecución para evaluar el funcionamiento ejecutivo y un cuasi experimento para evaluar la atención. Los resultados indican diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre los grupos respecto a la atención dirigida a interacciones sociales; también mostraron diferencias significativas entre los grupos en inhibición. Se discuten los hallazgos desde la perspectiva de que el desarrollo de las habilidades está relacionado con las prácticas, demandas y características sociodemográficas de los contextos en los que se encuentran los niños.

Considering this variability, this study aimed to compare attention and executive function in 110 children from 9 to 11 years old, belonging to three groups: non-Mapuche urban, Mapuche urban and rural Mapuche, from communes in the La Araucanía region. The methodological approach was quantitative in two phases: one to explore and adapt the instruments, and the other to test the research hypotheses. The instrument battery consisted of three performance tests to assess executive functioning and a quasi-experiment to assess attention. The results indicated statistically significant differences between the groups regarding the attention directed to social interactions; also the differences affected between the groups in inhibition.
