This study analyzes a part of the narrative work of the Chilean writer Salvador Reyes (1899-1970). The corpus was built according to the foundations of the research project FONDECYT Nº1120614: Literary cartography of the great north. Then, according to these fundamentals, it was located in two specific spaces within the map of the Great North: Taltal and Antofagasta, spaces that allow to apprehend a northern vision of the world. It should be noted that the author's work is quite extensive and includes poems, short stories, short and extensive novels, chronicles, testimonial stories and essays, so the selection process investigated very exhaustively throughout his work to achieve the proposed purposes and analyze his work from the determination of these two spaces. The figure of Salvador Reyes is of great importance for national letters, because he was a writer who generated controversy for the character of his stories, marked by the innovation of a new narrative scenario and also by characters who were outside the Chilean letters. From his first narrative publication entitled The Last Pirate (1925) causes a great impact and will begin a series of approaches to his work in post of a classification: realism, criollismo, imaginism, avant-garde, suprerealism; they are the labels that his work has received. After this study that comprises only a part of his creation we can say that the vision of art projected by the writer leads him to create a work that transcends classifications and allows varied interpretations. However, the corpus analyzed presents features of the generation of 27 in terms of the use of a multiple narrator, the effect of derealization that is achieved through the reminiscences of the characters (not of the invention) these reminiscences are achieved by the inner journey that these characters undertake. Therefore a process of reconstruction of the past through affective memory (la durèe). In this area, it is worth noting the intimate relationship of the author between life and art because he was born and inhabited the spaces analyzed, however this fact does not determine an autobiographical narrative, because the characters are a fictional equivalent to the biographical subject. It is also proposed that the texts analyzed present an incipient existentialism generated by the break between human being and present world, which causes an emptying of the future (historical hyperbaton). The inner journey that the characters make towards the happy past, the childhood and youth lived in the context of the nitrate boom, is achieved from two scenarios: home and public space. In the chapter that unifies the texts in the category of innominates, the reminiscences arise from their habitat, their home, their intimacy, in the same way the stories that are grouped in the second chapter (Taltal as a space of resistance to modernity), however in the third chapter that predominates as a physical space Antofagasta the inner journey is made through the journey through the public space of an individualized but not personalized character , who gets lost in the entropy of the port, this wandering generates pleasure in all its senses (flaneur erotology). On the other hand, the characters of the entire analyzed corpus feel jaded when returning from their inner journey, the present reality generates in them melancholy and is presented as absurd. In addition, the construction of heterotopias and heterochronies was analyzed, these localizable places, which are built through memories, hence the relationship that another space gives rise to another time. As well as the evolution that the characters experience. Finally, the work of Salvador Reyes that we have studied incorporates the space of the Norte Grande (desert and sea) to Chilean letters, not only as a merely physical space, but as an interior space. This narrative space entails new themes, characters, motifs, adventures, worldviews; but, above all, a different sensibility, close to the avant-garde. The corpus analyzed –only a part of his work- reflects the constant effort of Salvador Reyes to universalize the contingency of the northern nitrate port space, as an old cosmopolitan center. The study of the interiority of the narrative subject constitutes, therefore, the basis of this study, interiority that becomes determined by time and the physical space (port) in which the characters transit. Then it becomes necessary the presence that finds in the outer city its interiority, because it (the city) is the space that allows it to remember. In this way, through heterotopias and heterochronies, the internal chronotope predominates in Reyes' accounts over external realities. The story is based on the reminiscences of the characters: childhood and youth. In addition, as the story told is the one lived in 'illo tempore', the present and future are diluted, absorbed by the memories. As a consequence, his gaze will always be on the past, while his current condition is debated in an existential void, where continuity represents the useless, the meaningless. In this way, Reyes' narrative anticipates in Chilean literature the presence of an incipient existentialism. |

El corpus fue construido de acuerdo a los fundamentos del proyecto de investigación FONDECYT Nº1120614: Cartografía literaria del norte grande. Entonces, de acuerdo a dichos fundamentos se situó en dos espacios específicos dentro del mapa del Norte Grande: Taltal y Antofagasta, espacios que permiten aprehender una visión nortina del mundo. Cabe destacar que la obra del autor es bastante extensa y en ella se incluye poemarios, cuentos, novelas breves y extensas, crónicas, relatos testimoniales y ensayos, por ello el proceso de selección indagó de manera muy exhaustiva en toda su obra para poder alcanzar los fines propuestos y analizar su obra a partir de la determinación de estos dos espacios. La figura de Salvador Reyes es de gran importancia para las letras nacionales, debido a que fue un escritor que generó polémica por el carácter de sus relatos, marcados por la innovación de un nuevo escenario narrativo y también por personajes que estaban fuera de las letras chilenas. Desde su primera publicación narrativa titula El último pirata (1925) causa un gran impacto y se iniciará una serie de aproximaciones a su obra en post de una clasificación: realismo, criollismo, imaginismo, vanguardismo, suprerealismo; son las rotulaciones que ha recibido su obra. Finalizado este estudio que comprende sólo una parte de su creación podemos manifestar que la visión del arte que proyecta el escritor lo conduce a crear una obra que trasciende las clasificaciones y permite variadas interpretaciones. Sin embargo, el corpus analizado presenta rasgos propios de la generación del 27 en cuanto al uso de un narrador múltiple, el efecto de desrealización que se logra a través de las reminiscencias de los personajes (no de la invención) estas reminiscencias son logradas por el viaje interior que emprende dichos personajes. Por lo tanto un proceso de reconstrucción del pasado a través de la memoria afectiva (la durèe). En este ámbito, cabe destacar la íntima relación del autor entre vida y arte porque nació y habitó los espacios analizados, sin embargo este hecho no determina una narrativa autobiográfica, porque los personajes son un equivalente ficcional al sujeto biográfico. Además se propone que los textos analizados presentan un incipiente existencialismo generado por el quiebre entre ser humano y mundo presente, lo que provoca una vaciamiento del futuro (hipérbaton histórico). El viaje interior que realizan los personajes hacia el pasado feliz, la infancia y juventud vivida en el contexto del auge salitrero, es lograda desde dos escenarios: hogar y espacio público. En el capítulo que unifica los textos en la categoría de innominados, las reminiscencias surgen desde se hábitat, su hogar, su intimidad, de igual manera los relatos que se agrupan en el segundo capítulo (Taltal como espacio de resistencia ante la modernidad), sin embargo en el tercer capítulo que predomina como espacio físico Antofagasta el viaje interior se realiza a través del recorrido de por el espacio público de un personaje individualizado pero no personalizado, quien se pierde en la entropía propia del puerto, este deambular genera placer en todos sus sentidos (erotología del flaneur). Por otro parte, los personajes de todo el corpus analizado sienten hastío al regresar de su viaje interior, la realidad presente genera en ellos melancolía y se presenta como absurda. Además se analizó la construcción de heterotopias y heterocronías, estos lugares localizables, que son construidos a través de los recuerdos, de ahí la relación que un otro espacio da lugar a un otro tiempo. Como también el devenir que experimentan los personajes. Finalmente, la obra de Salvador Reyes que hemos estudiado incorpora el espacio del Norte Grande (desierto y mar) a las letras chilenas, no sólo como espacio meramente físico, sino como espacio interior. Este espacio narrativo conlleva nuevas temáticas, personajes, motivos, peripecias, visiones de mundo; pero, sobre todo, una sensibilidad distinta, próxima al vanguardismo. El corpus analizado –apenas una parte de su obra- refleja el esfuerzo constante de Salvador Reyes por universalizar la contingencia del espacio puerto salitrero, en tanto antiguo centro cosmopolita. El estudio de la interioridad del sujeto narrativo constituye, pues, la base de este estudio, interioridad que deviene determinada por el tiempo y el espacio físico (puerto) en el que transitan los personajes. Entonces se hace necesaria la presencia que encuentra en la ciudad exterior su interioridad, porque ella (la ciudad) es el espacio que le permite recordar. De esta manera, a través de heterotopías y heterocronías, predomina en los relatos de Reyes el cronotopo interno por sobre las realidades externas. El relato se constituye a base de las reminiscencias de los personajes: infancia y juventud. Además, como la historia contada es la vivida en ‘illo tempore’, el presente y futuro se diluyen, absorbidos por los recuerdos. Como consecuencia, su mirada estará siempre en el pasado, mientras su condición actual se debate en un vacío existencial, donde la continuidad representa lo inútil, lo sin sentido.
