Sumario:Self-medication is defined as the use of medications and other medical products to treat selfdiagnosed symptoms and conditions for the benefit of one's own health. In observing that selfmedication is highly prevalent among health professionals, especially physicians and medical students, this study proposes to analyze the influence of the acquisition of medical knowledge on the prevalence of self-medication among medical students. This study was carried out through a narrative review using the Lilacs and MedLine databases, in addition to the official WHO Guidelines. A trend toward greater self-medication among the most advanced semesters was found in most articles analyzed, however due to the lack of studies in the literature, the finding cannot be considered definitive.
