| Sumario: | Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is a condition characterized by increased blood glucose levels during pregnancy due to insulin resistance caused by hormonal changes. GDM poses risks for maternal and fetal complications. A systematic literature review was conducted using PubMed and BVS, focusing on studies published between 2018 and 2025, selected for their relevance and quality.Predisposing factors such as obesity, advanced maternal age, family history, and socioeconomic conditions were identified. GDM can lead to complications like preeclampsia, fetal macrosomia, and future type 2 diabetes. Adequate prenatal care and nutritional guidance are crucial for prevention. Early diagnosis and proper management of GDM are essential to reduce complications. Preventive strategies and public health policies can improve maternal and fetal outcomes, particularly in pregnant women in vulnerable social conditions. |
