| Sumario: | The Scientific and Technological Federal Education Expansion held in 2008 through the 11892 law, changed several Federal Technical Education Institutions in “Institutos Federais de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia” (Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology), which are responsible for Professional Instruction in various forms of education, promoting both basic and college education. The libraries of these institutions are also inserted in this context, which are concomitantly, school and university libraries. Aiming to demonstrate the role of these libraries, motivated by questions about the possibility of coexistence of these types of libraries in a same space, we present a case study on the Community Library “Professora Ebe Alves da Silva” of the “Instituto Federal de Minas Gerais” which is not only a school and university library but also presents aspects of a “community” for its own denomination. For completing the study there were interviews and questionnaires, directed to different actors of the internal and external community institution. The results were submitted to the technique of “Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo” (Collective Subject Discourse) - DSC - who illustrated the discussion by relating the theoretical aspects of school library, university library and public library to the reality of Community Library “Professora Ebe Alves da Silva”. We came to the conclusion that the studied library fulfills the three roles, thus becoming a driving agent of democratization of information and contributing to the development of the city. |
