| Sumario: | This paper intends to position the unpublished poem Brasilienses Aurifodinae" by José Basílio da Gama in the global context of the work of this Arcadian poet, issued from collonial Minas Gerais brazilian province; it also attempts to place the text within the literary production of the Seven Hundreds. ln order to do this, new elements are presented that improve the knowledge of where and how Basilio's poem was written and enhance our understanding of its historical and cultural worthiness, namely the Jesuitical education of the writer, the dose contact with Iluministic ideas he enjoyed during exile in ltaly, his direct experience of the Minas Gerais gold mining society, and the mastery of Latin didactic poetry literary tecnique he demonstrated. |
