Democracy and cyberactivism: 10 years after the 2013 June JourneysJune journeysdemocracypopulismcyberactivismjournalismThe June Journeys that tookplace in 2013 in Brazil profoundlymarked the direction of politics, democracyand journalism in the country. Ten years after the wave of manifestations, the scenario that emerges is one of a democratic crisis, with a strong political polarization and various impacts on professional journalism. The article aims to point out the changes that occurred in Brazilian democracy in the period 2013-2023; understand the impacts of conservatism and radicalism of power groups, especially those on the right and extreme right; and understand the role of digital activism, including for hegemonic and independent media groups. The methodology is based on bibliographic and documentary research, in addition to case studies on the performance of two journalistic vehicles: Folha de S. Paulo and M & iacute;dia Ninja. Among the results, the centrality of cyberactivism is observed as an instrument for both populism and neoconservatism as well as fuel for the rise of other independent media vehicles created in the country in the last decade. Furthermore, we observe the escalation of antidemocratic principles legitimized primarily by authoritarian leaders.Univ Estadual Paulista Unesp, Ave Eng Luiz Edmundo Carro Coube,14-01-Vargem Limp, BR-17033360 Bauru, SP, BrazilUniv Estadual Paulista Unesp, Ave Eng Luiz Edmundo Carro Coube,14-01-Vargem Limp, BR-17033360 Bauru, SP, BrazilUniv Sevilla, EditorialUniversidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP)2025-04-29T20:06:48Z2024-01-01info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/article165http://dx.doi.org/10.12795/Ambitos.2024.i63.04Ambitos. The June Journeys that tookplace in 2013 in Brazil profoundlymarked the direction of politics, democracyand journalism in the country. Ten years after the wave of manifestations, the scenario that emerges is one of a democratic crisis, with a strong political polarization and various impacts on professional journalism.
