Resumo:This article brings the results of a research developed in the field of Sociology of Education, which had as main objective to investigate the school trajectories of students from low-income backgrounds enrolled in graduate programs at the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP). The research was carried out through a qualitative approach and the application of semi-structured interviews with five low-income students. Based on the data obtained and supported by the theory, it can be concluded that, in general, the involvement of families with the schooling of the investigated students was heterogeneous and without an intentional school project;  The schooling trajectories of the five students from low-income backgrounds, permeated by family and individual mobilizations, showed that the students experienced the condition of good students in basic education and at university, liked school and had good school results; and built several short-term schooling strategies that, associated, enabled a long schooling path and the access to higher levels of schooling, entering the academic master's degree. Furthermore, it is important to mention the relevance of recent public policies for the democratization of the university, specifically the Affirmative Actions that allowed these students to experience university life, to remain in Higher Education, first in undergraduate studies, and later in graduate studies stricto sensu.
