Descripción
Sumario:The work Memórias do Cárcere, by Graciliano Ramos, published in 1953, after his death, portrays the period in which the writer was imprisoned in 1936, a victim of the Estado Novo dictatorship in the process of being established. The four parts that make up the work – Travel, Primary Pavilion, Correctional Colony and Correction House – give an in-depth view of the reality of the country and the situation of the prisoner in the 1930s. synonymous with dehumanization and disrespect for human life. The human being, in this environment, is depersonalized, degraded and restricted from his rights. Hence, the bias of denunciation and social criticism present in the work, as it makes direct reference to political oppression, and the testimonial nature, opening a space for those silenced and showing another version of History.
