Descripción
Sumario:The article intends to present a hermeneutics of literature in José Tolentino Mendonça based on the notion of spiritual exercises. It is not a matter of simply stating that the Portuguese poet is part of a religious tradition, but rather of understanding how, in his poetic work and in his understanding of literature, the author reflects and refracts elements of Christian spirituality. To achieve this objective, the article's argumentative path goes, at first, from a description of the tradition of spiritual exercises and their incorporation by José Tolentino Mendonça to a highlight of the speeches made at the spiritual retreat of the Pope and the Roman Curia, in 2018, occasion when Tolentino was the preacher.
