At each sampling date, a 100 leaves sample per cultivar was collectedup by taking 10 leaves per tree, in 10 randomly selected trees. On ‘Fuji’, the european red mite was present all the time during the vegetative growth, while on ‘Gala’ it was absent in November and December 2006. The mean counts on ‘Gala’ and ‘Fuji’, respectively, were 2.78 and 14.24 eggs/leaf, 0.37 and 1 immature/leaf and 0.49and 1.15 adult/leaf. The european red mite was more present and abundant on ‘Fuji’ leaves. Este trabalho teve por objetivo verificar o nível de infestação e a época de ocorrência do ácaro vermelho-europeu (Panonychus ulmi) nas cultivares de macieira Gala e Fuji. O estudo foi conduzido em umpomar convencional, situado na Epagri/Estação Experimental de Caçador, SC. As amostragens do ácaro foram realizadas quinzenalmente, durante o período vegetativo, de novembro de 2005 a dezembro de 2006. Utilizaram se dez plantas de cada cultivar, escolhidas aleatoriamente. Em cada planta foram coletadas dez folhas, totalizando cem folhas por cultivar em cada amostragem. Na ‘Fuji’, o ácaro foi observado em todo o período vegetativo, enquanto que em ‘Gala’ não houve ocorrência em novembro e dezembro de 2006. A infestação média do ácaro em ‘Gala’ e em ‘Fuji’ foi, respectivamente, de 2,78 e 14,24 ovos/folha, 0,37 e 1 imaturo/folha e 0,49 e 1,15 adulto/folha. Verificou-se que o ácaro-vermelho-europeu foi mais freqüente e abundante em folhas de ‘Fuji’.
