| Sumario: | The plural and open character of the New Age has been highlighted by a series of researchers dedicated to this field of study, but the discussion about the New Age dialogues with the Umbanda in Brazil is still incipient. In this work, I focus on what is generally y called Esoteric Umbanda, indicating s spectrum of possibilities in the arrangement between the New Age and Umbanda resulting from the perception of the religious agents who treats the elements of the two universes as different but not as opposites. My observations result from my fieldwork in two Umbanda centers in the metropolitan area of Florianopolis, highlight the plurality of possible practices created by the dialogue between New Age and Umbanda. |
