| Sumario: | This research has the indexing process with main theme, focusing on the importance of policy indexing has in libraries/information units for the representation of information. The general objective of the research is to analyze, based on the evidence available in the Brazilian literature in the area of Library and Information Science, the relationship between policy indexing and consistency in thematic representation and information retrieval. The specific objectives are to identify the theoretical and methodological foundations that guide the elaboration and institutionalization of indexation policies; describe the procedures to be followed when constructing a policy indexing; and analyze the interrelationship between consistency of indexing procedures and information retrieval. This subject was chosen by the fact that the Brazilian literature in the area of Library and Information Science is incipient regarding the implications of the policy indexing for representation and information retrieval. The theoretical framework is based on the theoretical and conceptual aspects of indexing and policy indexing, and involving the practical dimension of such processes. The relationship between indexing, representation of information and information retrieval is also discussed. There is also, as an integral part of the theoretical framework, the discussion of the systematic review method and the importance of its incorporation in research in the area of Information Science. In methodological terms, the research was conducted a systematic review, method that has an objective to map it comprehensively, impartially and reproducibly, which locates, evaluates and synthesizes evidence set of scientific studies to get a general and reliable about this question. The results demonstrated the importance an elaboration of policy indexing in the libraries/information units it is considered a guiding element for the indexing process, helping the indexing professionals in business taking. The results also indicated important particularities for elaboration of the policy indexing and shortage studies about this area, notably regarding the interrelationship between policy indexing and information retrieval. |
