Descripción
Sumario:Cannabis sativa L. (Cannabaceae) has been used by humans for thousands of years, being a plant currently widely studied in drug development and its medicinal use in natura has been widely discussed, given its pharmacological potential. This manuscript describes the pharmacological aspects and legislation associated with Cannabis sativa L. in Brazil through a literature review in indexed databases and regulatory agencies. Cannabis sativa L. has a wide variety of chemicals, such as delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, cannabidiol, cannabigerol, cannabinol and delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol as the most studied. The human organism has a series of cannabinoid receptors and the modulation of these receptors is associated with the medicinal use of the species. In Brazil, the use of Cannabis sativa L. has gone through numerous legal stages. From criminalization in 1932 to the authorization of cannabinoid-containing drugs in 2019. In the technological and scientific context there is a constant search to elucidate the potential of the plant, but these factors confront legal and social aspects.
