Sumario:Water is one of the fundamental natural resources for life on earth. It is regarded as a precious commodity, indispensable to all human activities, as well as being a representative component of social and cultural values. Its contamination represents a great risk to the health of the population. This paper presents the evaluation of the quality of drinking water from the source located in the municipality of Catu, in the recôncavo region of Bahia. Samples were collected from June to August 2019 in a single point (widely used by the local population). Physicochemical and microbiological parameters such as pH, total dissolved solids, conductivity, turbidity, color, iron, hardness, chloride, fluorine, total and thermotolerant coliforms were analyzed. The mean values for the physicochemical parameters analyzed were: pH (6.8), total dissolved solids (98.88 mg / L), conductivity (154.50 µs / cm), turbidity (0.67 NTU), color (0.0 mg.Pt/L), iron (0.04 mg / L), hardness (40 mg / L), chloride (50.65 mg / L) and fluorine (0.07 mg / L). For microbiological parameters positive results were identified for total coliforms and negative for thermotolerants. The results were compared with the reference values established by Ordinance No. 2.914 / 11 of the Ministry of Health, CONAMA Resolution n° 396/08 and CONAMA Resolution n° 357/05. The values indicated that all the physicochemical parameters were in compliance with the current legislation, however, for microbiological analysis, the total coliforms presented values higher than acceptable, indicating possible contamination due to lack of maintenance.
