Resumo:The investigation focus of this paper is the extracurricular context of futsal classes in private schools in Porto Alegre. The aim of the study was to analyze the perception of the modality’s coaches about their pedagogical practice in the context of participation of school teams in competitions. Competitive activities are present in schools and have an impact on male and female students' learning. The seven teachers participating in the research were interviewed through a semi-structured interview. The interviews, recorded and transcribed, were analyzed using thematic analysis. In pedagogical practice, the use of sports competitions between schools seems to be central. The perceptions of the interviewed teachers indicate competitions as something that is present and closely linked to the activity's reason for existing, often ending up being used as an end and not as a pedagogically structured means of learning.
