Sumario:Musical Performance Anxiety (MPA) is a multidimensional phenomenon, since it impacts emotional, cognitive, physiological and behavioral aspects of the subject. In its origin it may be related to two sources, trait anxiety or state anxiety. The way the individual receives and interprets the stimuli of the environment triggers response that can be adaptive, optimizing the levels of the presentation, or maladaptive, which in their manifestations limit performance. In order to keep these indices under control, coping strategies are proposed, which are suggested from the primary source of stress to the performer. Among the strategies aimed at better preparation of the task, the development of the subject's self-regulatory capabilities are indicated by the literature on the subject. Regarding self-regulation, Social Cognitive Theory is taken as the theoretical foundation for the development of discussions on the subject. Through the application of questionnaires that seek to access the levels of anxiety and self-regulated attitudes and the use of interviews, this research is proposed to clarify whether the promotion of self-regulated behaviors can be pointed out as a valid strategy in the fight against MPA.
