Descripción
Sumario:The study compares two translations into Spanish of the short-story “El globo fantasma”, by the Brazilian writer Rubem Fonseca. Specifically, discrepancies in word order concerning the expression of the pragmatic function focus between the two translations were analyzed. The aim of the paper is exploring the way translators solved the problem of translating a pragmatic element in Portuguese-Spanish translation studies. The framework is Functional Grammar (Dik 1989, 1997). The results show differences in the way syntax-pragmatic interface operates in these languages and also that information focus may occupy different positions in Spanish, according to the translator’s decisions and to discursive regularities of each variety of this language.
