Descripción
Sumario:Hemodialysis treatment affects physical, psychological, family and social aspects of the individual. This paper’s main goal was to analyze coping strategies used as a way to deal with demands in hemodialysis treatment, as well as evaluate patients’ quality of life. The participants were 40 people in hemodialysis treatment. The instruments included were the Quality of Life Questionnaire (Portuguese version – SF 36) and the Ways of Coping Questionnaire (Portuguese version – EMEP). Results show relevant correlations between emotional, social, and physical aspects related to the general health state, mental health and emotion-focused coping. It is clear that efficient psychosocial interventions are needed, which may minimize behavioral costs involved in hemodialysis treatment and improve patients’ quality of life.
