After the contract was over, the Assembly, after some debates, chose to grant the prerogative to the Santa Casa de Misericórdia ("Holy House of Mercy") on the grounds that it would not speculate over prices. After the concession, the fellowship "outsourced" the funeral transport, the context of action, and the controversies involved, the two agents are based on the minutes of the municipal chamber of São Paulo, the annals of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of São Paulo, and periodicals from that time.  Este artículo analiza el monopolio de los servicios de transporte funerario en la ciudad de São Paulo, entre 1855 y fines del siglo 19. En 1856, la Asamblea Legislativa de la Provincia de São Paulo otorgó el monopolio de los servicios funerarios al empresario carioca Joaquim Marcellino da Silva, por un período de 15 años. Con la finalización del contrato, la Asamblea optó por ceder la prerrogativa a la Santa Casa de Misericórdia, alegando que no especularía con los valores del servicio. Sin embargo, después de la concesión, la hermandad "subcontrató" el transporte funerario. El contexto de la acción y las controversias que involucraron, los dos agentes se basan en actas del cámara municipal de São Paulo, los anales de la Asamblea Legislativa de la Provincia de São Paulo y publicaciones periódicas.Este artigo analisa o monopólio do serviço de transporte funerário na cidade de São Paulo, entre 1855 e o fim do século XIX. Em 1856, a Assembleia Legislativa da Provincia de São Paulo concedeu o monopólio do serviço funerário ao empresário carioca Joaquim Marcellino da Silva, pelo período de 15 anos. Com o término do contrato, a Assembleia optou por entregar a prerrogativa à Santa Casa de Misericórdia, alegando que esta não iria especular com os valores do serviço. Após a concessão, no entanto, a irmandade “terceirizou” o transporte funerário.
