| Sumario: | This study aimed to understand the process of anticipatory grief in institutionalized elders. This is a qualitative study with six institutionalized elderly people aged 60 and over, using a sociodemographic questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. It was found that the institutionalization of elders often exacerbates their feelings of grief regarding losses in their previous history, leading to social isolation and to a disinvestment in one’s own self, which manifests as anticipatory grief about one’s own finitude. |
