| Sumario: | The article presents a study that aimed to identify the literature that includes the elaboration of mourning for the elderly. The search took place in July and August 2019 in the following databases: BVS Saúde, Scielo, RedAlyc, and PubMed, between 2009 and 2018. 23, 679 articles were found in the first search, of which 207 were selected. After reading, 29 integrated the review, and 176 articles were excluded. Of these 29 articles, 13 were found in Pubmed, 8 in Scielo, 7 in BVS Saúde, and 1 in Redalyc. From the readings, four categories were built: grief for physical death, grief for the loss, complicated grief, and Anticipatory grief. The exploration of the literature on physical losses was highlighted, such as the death of loved ones and their mourning process, widowhood experiences, and the elaboration of anticipated or complicated losses. A lack of attributions in the literature on the investigation of symbolic losses was identified. |
