| Sumario: | Prejudice is a form of discrimination against certain people based on origin, religion, race, skin color or sexual orientation. It can be seen consciously or unconsciously, but historically it has been used as a way of discriminating against and oppressing those who do not fit the prevailing standards in society. Over the years, governments, non-governmental organizations and individuals have intensified their efforts to combat prejudice. Education is the most effective means of combating the prejudices that are at the root of many of the social problems that exist today. One form of prejudice concerns sexual orientation. The purpose of this article was to identify the privileges that heterosexual people have. The methodology was based on two approaches: observation and an online qualitative research. The first result of the author's experiences and the second through an online qualitative research. This search retrieved 56 responses, which was enough to saturate the data. The results converged in identifying 25 privileges for heterosexual people. In conclusion, the imperative of heteronormativity disrespects sexual and gender diversity, preventing people from being free to express their sexuality and gender identity, oppressing those who do not fit the imposed standards of behavior. It also promotes discriminatory practices, stigmatizing and marginalizing those who do not fit into dominant patterns of behavior |
