Sumario:Introduction: Pilates is defined as a method of physical conditioning that integrates body and mind, expanding the capacity and angulation of movements, control, strength, muscle balance and body consciousness and aims to promote complete health of the body. Objective: to analyze the gain in flexibility and quality of life in beginners and advanced women in the Pilates method. Materials and methods: It is a descriptive field research, quali-quantitative of transversal character.  It was used as method for the research the test to sit and achieve adapted PROESP-BR and the questionnaire of Quality of Life - SF-36. The sample was chosen for non-probability convenience, consisting of 40 women, 20 beginners and 20 advanced, both with a mean age of 32.6 years. Results and discussion: It were found that the practice of pilates 1-2x in the week for a longer period can provide a significant improvement both in the quality of life and in the flexibility of those who practice. In the eight domains that make up the SF-36 questionnaire, seven had their mean domains increased and only the "mental health" domain remained unchanged. With regard to the adapted sitting and achieving test, it can be noted that the -3 months group is at a low level of flexibility and that in the +12 months group most of those assessed are at a medium and high level of flexibility. Conclusion: The beneficial effects of pilates practice on quality of life and flexibility are related to the time of practice, regardless of the weekly frequency.
