| Sumario: | Between 1976 and 1979, the professor Lélia González taught courses about the black presence in Brazilian culture. Using an historical approach, this article examines documents related to classes during the period to understand how expressions of popularity such as soccer, samba, and carnival appear in the author's thinking. The study relativizes pioneering research on popular culture in the country, reshapes the legacy of the thinker of the black movement, and offers clues about the process of political opening in the last years of the civil-military dictatorship (1964-1985) based on the author's experience. |
