Sumario:The forgetfulness of women, as producers of knowledge and object of study, is also present when it comes to interpretive views of Brazil. This paper revisits Lelia Gonzalez´s contribution to highlight her role as an interpreter of Brazilian capitalism that deal with the specificities of relations between race, gender and class in Brazil and Latin America. Our argument is to rescue Lelia as one of the interpreters of Brazil and evoke her voice on the formation of Brazilian capitalism permeated by racism and sexism. The paper presents: i) the life, work, influences and main contributions of Lelia, ii) racism and sexism in the development of Brazilian capitalism and iii) the actuality of Lelia reading for the understanding of Brazilian society. The last section highlights that as the most disheartened people are black and the most abused are black women in Brazil, reality shows that we have not yet overcome the time of masters and slaves that dominated the scene of the big houses and the slave quarters.
