| Sumario: | We live in a cis-heteronormative culture which considers bodies that are foreign to expectations of gender and sexuality abject. Situated in this context, this article aims to understand how video productions of transgender people, propagated and popularized online, inspire(d) subversively the resignification of insults. Therefore, we methodologically anchor ourselves in queer theory and in reflections of media and gender intellectuals. Our corpus consists of four videos, which show people who self-identify as “faggot”, “queer” and/or “shemale”: Laila Dominique, Vanessa, Deborah Palhari and Luísa Marilac. The investigation is developed from the analysis of these audiovisuals, as well as their media impact. We believe that, more than giving new meanings to the terms, transgender people reframe(d) contexts and vexatious situations in which they were inserted, opening way for a series of other people to do the same. |
