| Sumario: | This article is a case study, with a qualitative approach, which aims to analyze the patents requested and granted to a hospital which is a leading organization in innovation in medical services in Brazil. The best-ranked company in the category of the Valor Inovação Brasil 2020 ranking – Sociedade Beneficente Israelita Brasileira Hospital Albert Einstein – was the selected case. Patent application data between 2016 and 2021were collected with Einstein as assignee in Google Patents and Espacenet databases. Seventeen patent applications were examined: the findings include a higher incidence of open, incremental, process, and product innovations, in invention patents, and without a definitive opinion issued in Brazil. The study is potentially useful for the area of health innovation and the development of a critical look at intellectual property issues and innovative solutions. |
