| Sumario: | The Tropicalist “movement” was formed and consolidated in the period 1966 and 1969, dialoguing with the various spheres of Brazilian cultural production. The staging of the plays Rei da Vela (1933) and Roda Viva (1968), alongside the album Tropicália or Panis et Circensis (1968) and the compact Forbidding (1968) represent different responses in the theatrical and musical production of a process that had a great impact on Brazilian culture, and specifically among the left, which crystallized an artistic production with different national-popular proposals. The innovations, incorporations, ruptures, and the aesthetic radicalization operated by Caetano Veloso and José Celso, are themes open to analysis around the dialogue between their productions and criticism of popular national proposals. In our research, we intend to analyze both the debates around albums and plays, as well as their lyrics and staging. Our goal is to shed light on the existing affinities between the works of outstanding artists, and how these affinities allow us to problematize the relationship between cultural production and the social process of a certain period of Brazilian history. |
