| Sumario: | This text discusses one of the dimensions explored in recent doctoral research on inequalities in educational opportunities as a phenomenon that was evidenced in the study of the social and academic profile of UFMG students of the International Mobility Program "Science Without Borders", established in 2011, by the federal government. Despite the main object of this research, the data obtained revealed several expectations of the interviewees, regarding the possible impacts of the mobility in their professional training and career. Therefore, this work has the purpose of demonstrate the different motivations underlying the option for exchange related to this feasible impact. The methodological reference for this research question was based on content analysis, through the establishment of categories that guided the qualitative study of the interviewees ' discourse. The main categories of analysis motivating the exchange for professional and career purposes: The family influence, the choice of the country and the University of destination, the establishment of networkings (social capital), the learning of foreign language for professional improvement, contact with different cultures, and also the possibility of postgraduate studies with a view to the specialization. The conclusion is that the exchange is a unique opportunity that extends beyond the anticipated pedagogical and cultural benefits. |
