Partial laparoscopic nephrectomy for T2b tumor in patients with the solitary kidney: case report

| Sumario: | Introduction: For T2 tumors, most authors suggest radical nephrectomy, however, nephrectomy reports for T2b tumors in patients with solitary kidney are lacking in the literature. Case report: RJAL, male, 32 years old, with a tumor in the left kidney measuring 12 cm and right renal agenesis. In the preoperative period he had normal renal function. He underwent laparoscopic partial nephrectomy in June 2016. The patient progressed with elevated serum creatinine and anuric, and then was started a renal replacement therapy with hemodialysis. After 20 days, because normalization of renal function was present, were decided to discontinue hemodialysis. The pathology revealed to be renal cell carcinoma. At the moment the patient is outside of hemodialysis and CT scan showing kidney with no evidence of tumor recurrence. Comments: Laparoscopic partial nephrectomy for stage T2b renal tumors is possible and may be indicated in selected cases, such as renal agenesis, with an effective oncologic result and maintenance of renal function. |
