Sumario:This article explores the applicability, benefits, and implications of ChatGPT - an Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool - in the fields of education and academic production. Practical-observational tests and an integrative review of the most recent literature (2023) were conducted. The literature suggests that ChatGPT can be applied in a variety of teaching and learning contexts, stimulating the autonomous development of students and supporting teachers in their practices. In the medical field, the tool's interactivity aids in tutoring and small group education; in the dental field, an update to the curriculum is suggested to encompass the use of AI tools. In academic production, ethical concerns related to authorship and plagiarism are raised with respect to the content generated by the tool. Practical tests confirmed that ChatGPT's informational content is not suitable as an academic reference. However, its instructional content is useful for educational and scientific practices. A critical reflection among academia, institutions, and students is necessary to discuss its use in a comprehensive and ethical manner.
