Sumario:This article aims to conduct an analysis of the relationship between Buddhist tantra and the Mahāsiddha movement, which flourished during medieval India. The Mahāsiddhas were yogis and spiritual masters who played a crucial role in the expansion and evolution of Buddhist teachings. Known for their eccentric and unconventional practices, they incorporated elements related to sacred sexuality, as well as the exploration of altered states of consciousness, aiming to reach the highest peaks of Buddhist spirituality. Furthermore, many narratives about these beings mention tantric texts, indicating that the relationship between them is inseparable and central to the transmission and expansion of Buddhist tantra throughout history. As for the methodology, this is essentially a bibliographic article. We used works by academic researchers as well as authorities in the Mahāyāna and Vajrayāna traditions as theoretical references.
