| Sumario: | Floods are among the natural phenomena that most impact society when there is occupation in susceptible areas. Among the cities affected in the Maranhão, Santo Amaro do Maranhão has a history of records of damage due to large floods, and the Alto Formoso neighborhood stands out as one of the places with the highest recurrence of this type of disaster, whose analysis, focusing on recurrence and more significant damage to the population, constitutes the objective of this research. The methodology consisted of bibliographic, documentary, cartographic analysis, and data collection for which the results were obtained. Based on the data and information obtained, the main points with recorded flooding were listed, related to the increase in the water level of the Alegre River and the Santo Amaro Lake above the usual level during flood periods, noting that the points of flood correspond to areas with lower altimetric quotas, whose homes are more susceptible to damage in years of exceptional rainfall. |
