Resumo:In the current secularized context, religious manifestations are confined to the personal sphere. This concealment causes a difficulty in finding a meaning to human existence beyond the immanent. With this paper we intend, through the story Parker's Back by the southern author Flannery O'Connor, to show the value of literature and contemporary art as cathartic agents of society. To exemplify the relationship between aesthetics and religious experience. To analyze if mysticism and aesthetics are the two great ways for the encounter of two transcendent beings: God and the human being, sharer of divinity through the salvation of an incarnated God. As a result of the research it will be possible to prove that Beauty and Truth are linked to touch the mystery, expression used by Flannery O'Connor with which she intends to launch a message of hope to society.
